Preparing for a performance of The Nutcracker

Every dancer must do his or her own makeup and hair before every performance. I've always loved the ritual of pre-performance preparation. Doing my makeup feels familiar and I find it quite calming. I listen to my i-pod and chat with my buddies in the dressing room while getting ready. This process takes about half an hour. I also like helping the new apprentices with their makeup because it can seem confusing and daunting at first.

It's always nice to hear about the established dancers helping out the newcomers. It must be daunting to be in your first season with a major Company and have no clue about what to do - except that you want to get out there and dance.
It would be fun to hear from Sophie, Gwyneth or Kristin (or all three!) about their recollections of their first season of NUTCRACKER.
I understand the snow in the Snow Scene can be pretty gross when it gets on your eyelashes and lipstick. I've wondered if the 'snow' is slippery; I always get nervous watching the girls in that scene because the choreography seems pretty demanding to dance when there is 'stuff' on the floor.
Thank you for the pictures, Sophie.
